What does dental makeup include?
Tooth makeup applications are applied to the hard outer enamel layer, known as the outermost layer of the tooth. No application is made to the inner dentin layer or the soft pupla layer, which is another layer of the tooth. For this reason, this application is considered among the cosmetic or aesthetic dentistry applications.
Hard Tooth Enamel: This part of the tooth is basically the outer shell of your teeth consisting of calcium phosphate. Tooth enamel is quite hard and is considered one of the hardest substances in the body. The hard outer part of your tooth (enamel) usually prevents foreign materials and bacteria from getting deep into the tooth. However, this outer layer is exposed to external influences from food and drink.
Inner Dentin Layer: This layer of the tooth is the layer just inside the hard outer enamel shell. This layer makes up most of the structure and shape of your tooth. However, it is not a living tissue.
Soft Pulp: The living part of your tooth is called the “pulp”. This layer contains nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue. Therefore, when you have mouth and tooth problems such as caries, you feel pain or sensitivity due to the small nerves inside the tooth. In dental make-up, no application is made to this layer of the tooth.
Are dental makeup and smile design the same procedures?
Smile design and tooth make-up are not the same procedures. Smile design is a more comprehensive aesthetic dental surgery practice that includes teeth, gums and lips. On the other hand, it includes simpler and faster methods such as make-up and teeth whitening.
It is generally applied in cases where there are no problems such as tooth make-up, missing teeth and tooth crookedness. The purpose of this process is to make the teeth appear brighter and whiter in a short time. If it is necessary to intervene in the gums and teeth, a more detailed procedure such as smile design should be preferred.
